My role on this show had many aspects to it. Spanning from the technical side of things to managing the FX team and coordinating with production and the other departments.
There were quite a few interesting technical challenges on this project, such as handling and destroying huge amounts of geometry and rendering lots of clouds, and as you can imagine on such a movie, lots of explosions and sparks.
I got to do quite a bit of R&D and tool dev, for things such as efficient realistic clouds, curvy motion blur and simulating long tentacles.
Leading was a big part of my day to day work as well, where I had to technically support the team as well as keep a close communication with the supervision and production teams, to hit the goals and keep things running smoothly and on time.
This was one tough project, but we had a great team, that amazed me every step of the way, taking the challenge on and producing amazing results in a timeframe I wouldn’t have thought possible!
